books for kids

Smith, C. (author) & Cowley, K (illustrator). (2009). The Wonky Donkey. Auckland: Scholastic.

Great for young and old. Guaranteed to invoke a good old belly laugh. It has beautiful rhyme and repetition that young children will pick up quickly. I could never tire of this book.

What do you call a donkey who: has three three legs and one eye; likes country music; smells bad;  is tall and slim; is always up to mischief; hasn’t had his morning coffee; and is quite good looking?

A spunky, hanky-panky, cranky, stinky-dinky, lanky, honky-tonky, winky, wonky donkey!

How many other variations can you think of?

I’ll have to look out for that. I’m having so much fun (re)discovering books for young children.
