books for kids

Greder, A. (2007). The Island. Crows Nest, Australia: Allen & Unwin.

This book is a jaw-dropper. It is disturbing and brilliant. There is no other way to describe it. It raises issues of prejudice, refugees, difference, detainment, and brutality.

Definitely not one for the littlies, but for Grade 3 and above. It would be a great book for students to turn into a play. Here is a website where teachers review this book and discuss all of the curriculum possiblities.
