family life

Have you caught up with the movie Evan Almighty (2007) yet?

If not, do yourself a favour. This is such a great movie for the family. It has funny bits, sad bits, poignant bits. It has  messages about faith, the environment, and family.

My boys love this movie. It is heartwarming and humourous.

I love that one of the actors, who is not one of the stars, gets the best lines – Rita the Personal Assistant. Oh, and God is African American.

Here are some of my favourite lines from the movie (I think that having them here won’t spoil the movie)…

God: Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?

God: How do we change the world?
Evan Baxter: One single act of random kindness at a time.
God: [spoken while writing A-R-K on ground with a stick] One Act, of, Random, Kindness.

One Act of Random Kindness. Pretty cool.
I haven’t seen Evan Almighty. I’ll make sure to watch it.
    Thanks for the review.

      Hi Marcia

It’s a very entertaining movie and quirky. It’s got little links that keep you on your toes. For example Evan’s wife’s name is Joan – Joan of Arc. Steve Carell is Evan (heaven), and in one scene Jon Stewart is on the telly bagging out Evan. My husband told me that Steve Carell got his break in television on Jon Stewart’s show.

Wiki tells me that the film made a financial loss and generally had negative reviews.

We never get tired of it, and it’s a good movie for the kids – no violence, bad language, etc. Refreshing.
